Good morning lovely people. A few weeks ago I mentioned I had been involved in a secret project.. The restoration project is about saving a local historic Aqueduct Cottage in Cromford Derbyshire and to highlight its beautiful natural surroundings & nature. Also featured in a local e newspaper Derwentwise.
I became involved after seeing a callout for local artists to create paintings on the window & door boards. I couldn’t resist as I’d spent so many years since a child visiting. A beautiful magical place full of nature. You can view all the images on https://lnkd.in/g29eB6z you will notice from my timeline on there how much I enjoy going to the canal. Also in the images on Instagram are the family who lived there in the 1950’s with Frances Fay Barker one of the young children pictured in the black & white photo how beautiful!! So it did mean alot for me to get involved and give something back to the community. I hope you enjoy reading all about it.
Rain, Wind & sun there’s going to be plenty of fun today en Plein air! I have had this image in my head since at least from my early twenties it’s been stuck in my head diary of must do paintings lots of memories from Cromford brilliant ones spent with the family my husbands family home once nearby, we used to go for walks by the canal that was stagnant at the time the water never seemed to move around but still looked beautiful & dark with dappled light & insects flying about walks in the fields with the children in the hot sun when they were toddlers!
Its here I found my perfect spot time to get set up! I’ve sat by the bridge & Cromford meadows sign painting en Plein air can’t beat this! Canal boat, walkers & dogs, cyclists weather stormy winds with showers & hot sun! Light chasing round as fast as the wind!
Feeling quite emotional sat here as I’m remembering my youth. So much energy even as a young mum running around like a child myself! Nice to have that feeling again that’s what memories are for perfect aren’t they!
Just been told there is a dinosaur & I need to get that in my painting it’s near the factory! A gent just came up said how long as that taken you I said I got here about 11-11.30ish Not bad at all he says. It’s been so lovely so many people stopping for a chat & paying wonderful compliments. The view I’ve painted is different to what you can see so I think I will include the bridge in the next one as I like that view too! Great artworks by the rest of the group so many differ bet styles all masterpieces! Loved the wellbeing it’s brought today 😊 MJA🎨
At the moment I’m on a journey in art this time the journey is a romantic one steeped in Tudor history. Currently I’m working at a 16th Century pub “The Yew Tree” in South Wingfield on a mural painting of a a beautiful Derbyshire landscape. This landscape is an hisoric one and each day I’ve painted I feel I have been creating a journey to one of the most beautiful places we have in Derbyshire.
It all began when I started my “Heritage Inspirations” Series of paintings the Manors, the Halls all belonging to Derbyshire and our surrounding area’s each one having it’s own tale of romance & history. Each time I’ve painted one of the landscapes I began to feel like I’m a part of the painting each one has it’s own romance and some having stately connections to the past and our future all holding centuries of history preserved in time! So far it’s been a fabulous journey and it continues I simply can’t wait to find out what will happen next!
September “Heritage Inspirations is exhibited at Studio 61 Gallery, Leashaw, Matlock DE4.
October “Autumn Exhibition, The Buzz Gallery, Castle Donnington.

Heage Windmill” A Different Perspective”
As you know my latest series are based on Britains Heritage. I’m loving the series and gaining knowledge and sharing along the way. This time I’ve focused on local Heritage known as Heage Windmill. The windmill was built in the mid 16th Century and has had it’s ups and downs over the centuries it is now in full working order and is the only working Windmill in Britain with 6 sails and is now producing flour. Not so long ago it was visited by Prince Edward abit of a private affair I hasten to add as no-one in the area had a clue till it was over. The prince obviously needed his privacy and why not. The windmill is run by a group known as Heage Windymillers. This group has brought life back to our windmill, mill’s flour, has turned it into a well known Derbyshire tourist attraction bringing in lots of visitors both local and national. They also hold regular events such as the Vintage tractor fair, and even hold an outdoor painting event bringing young and old artists together.. I must say I’m feeling very proud of our local heritage. Heage Windmill located in the heart of Derbyshire sits on top of the hill.
Its time nearly time for votes to end in the Saatchionline Showdown competition titled ” In Living Colour”. Just another week to get your votes in for my painting “Sky Over Riber Castle”. Every artist dream! I really would love & appreciate your votes for my entry. If you’ve voted I would like to thank you for your kindness!
In between working on “Fragments of Mind” series Im looking for landscape inspirations.. Had a wonderful drive out in the Derbyshire Autumn sunshine getting some inspiration for my colourful landscapes. First up Riber Castle photographed the most beautiful view. Autumn is so inspiring. Also called at Wingfield Hall but they were just closing so I’m going to have to go back there really looking forward to getting that beautiful golden glow on one of Derbyshire’s most wonderful landmark’s feel so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty! Also in the past I painted another landmark Heage Windmill I’ve decided as I love it so much to paint another. In the meantime I have painted an Autumn abstract.www.artbymandy.com
