This painting began with some photography. Using a landscape photograph from our many walks in the local woods I find them so inspiring they have a certain eeriness about them especially this time of year and into winter, it’s the smells in the air, the deep colours that create this image in my minds eye and I actually see it like the eeriness is enchanting and alive!
The woman has moonflowers in her hair I chose the moonflowers carefully they open only at night and are so beautiful in detail they capture the essence of the mood perfectly.
The Winter Solstice is about the birth of the soul, the light breaking from the darkness on the shortest day of the year. It is a celebration of the birth of light and soul.
